Comprehensive Rural Development Through Credit

About Us

Kerala bank

Kerala State Co-operative Agricultural and Rural Development Bank has always been in the forefront of committed activities aimed at bettering the Social scenario of the village community. As the Apex body of the Primary Co-operative Agricultural and Rural Development Banks in the State, it has spear headed such programmes and streamlined them, right from its inception. The KSCARD Bank has, in fact, come a long way since the formative years when it focused primarily on the redemption of prior debts of rural farmer. The accent has switched over to the production oriented financing policy, which involves long term loans for development needs. The Bank has also diversified its activities and formulated various innovative loan schemes so as to achieve the prime objective of rural development.
The origin of KSCARD Bank can be traced back to 1931, the year in which the Land Mortgage Bank started functioning in the erstwhile Travancore State. Subsequently Land Mortgage Banks were established in Cochin and Malabar as well. With the formation of the Travancore Credit Bank, the land Mortgage Bank was merged into it. As a successor to the Travancore Credit Bank, the Kerala Co-operative Central Land Mortgage Bank was organized on October 4, 1956. Before long, the Land Mortgage Banks of Cochin and Malabar were also affiliated to it. The present Kerala State Co-operative Agricultural and Rural Development Bank Act came into force in 1985. Recently, the Bank re-oriented its activities catering to definite target groups such as artisans and small entrepreneurs and specific areas like village industries and rural housing.

Training Centers ITM KSCARDB : Institute For Training & Management

About ITM

The KSCARD Bank ITM is the pioneer state level Cooperative Training Institution and the only training institute in the long term cooperative credit structure in Kerala. The ITM, which was formerly known as the Staff Training Centre(STC) of KSCARDB, started its functioning in 1975.The institute is accredited by Centre for Professional Excellence in Cooperatives(C-PEC),an initiative of BIRD-Lucknow. KSCARD Bank bagged the Govt. of India Trophy for Best All Round Performance and three other awards in 2014-15 also. Being the top most among the ARDBs in India for so many years, we are very happy to extend our training support to the entire credit cooperatives in the country.

Cooperatives are now in the cross roads due to stiff competition, fast changing technology, lack of professionalism etc. They are in the dire need of innovative thinking, strategies and working methods to survive this transition period. As per the report of the Gopalakrishna Committee on Capacity Building in Banks and Non Banks released by RBI- “every employee should be given training for not less than 5 days a year. The training of senior officers is often relatively incomplete on account of exigencies of service. This must be remedied and the bank must ensure that senior officials are also trained for not less than 5 days a year”. Here comes the importance of training institutes like ITM.

ITM has been working in the field of competency building, knowledge and skill development, attitude orientation and inculcating professionalism among the staff Board of Directors of Cooperatives. The training has also been extended to the progressive farmers/entrepreneurs through the Farmers Training and Rural Development Centre (FTRDC) attached to ITM. We are also conducting on location and ODI programmes on request by the client organizations.

In the current year, we have scheduled 44 programmes in Channel One,4 computer programmes in Channel Two,3 programmes under FTRDC and 6 programmes for other cooperatives including one national level programme. We are also commited to conduct one state level workshop for the cooperatives in Kerala.

ITM is situated in the heart of Kochi and is well equipped with modernized A/C class rooms, Computer lab, well furnished conference Hall, Library, A/C accommodation etc. Participants will enjoy the learning ambience provided in our institute. A visit to ITM will be a rewarding and satisfying learning experience.

We value the enthusiastic backing received from our client organizations. We extend our sincere gratitude to NABARD,C-PEC and Government of Kerala for their cooperation and guidance. We are deeply obliged to the Management of KSCARDB Bank for the unstinted support we have been receiving.

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.
Anyone who keeps learning stays young.
The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young”
